PACKING
We are truly proud of our professional and secure packaging!
In order to assure a safe international delivery of our products a custom packaging was developed by our engineers and exclusively approved by UPS®.
It consists in a "bee-hive-like" Styrofoam mold where each dinner plate securely occupy a fully protected area.
The Cups & Saucers instead, are placed in an additional Styrofoam mold that placed on the top, that securely protects the whole content of the carton.
The larger "Home Decor" products are also shipped extremely well packed.
First, each item, already wrapped in Bubble-Pack, is individually boxed and protected either with Styrofoam peanuts, paper or with expandable "Foam-In place" by Instapack™
The "individual" cartons are then placed inside another box, for "double-protection", as most delivery carriers require.

Food Safe
All Deruta Collezioni's Dinnerware and Tabletop Products are Guaranteed to be 100% Food Safe.

Furthermore we independently inspected and test these products to comply with FDA standards and U.S.A. import regulations for" lead and cadmium.
Not Safe for Microwave or Conventional Oven Use

Protect Against Chips and Cracks
Majolica is low-fired earthenware and chips more easily than vitreous-china dinnerware. Careful hand wash is recommended although Deruta Collezioni's dinnerware items are electric dish-washing safe.
When using electric dishwashing, it is recommended to load your ceramic dinnerware far apart to avoid touching each other during the high pressure dish-washing.
Characteristics of Majolica and low fired Ceramics
With repeated use, Majolica has a tendency to "craze" (forming minuscule lines in the glazing).
The crazing is the nature of Majolica, and has no significant effect on the ceramic item.

SOME HISTORY ABOUT CERAMIC DINNERWARE AND MAJOLICA
Majolica, spelled Maiolica in Italian, the tin-oxide-glazed painted earthenware pottery of Italy, reached a summit of artistic quality during the late 15th and early 16th centuries, when sophisticated Hispano Moresque wares from Valencia were reproduced by Italian potters, which eventually became the renown Majolica master artists, thanks to their ability of creating pigments (colors), and durable glazes.
The name majolica is derived from the island of Majorca, the headquarters of trading vessels sailing between Spanish and Italian ports.
The most common surviving pieces from the earliest period of majolica are storage vessels made for monastic pharmacies, usually labeled to indicate their contents and decorated with Arabesque motifs or the symbols of saints credited with healing powers.
TYPES OF WARES
Pottery comprises three distinctive types of wares.
The first type, earthenware, has been made following virtually the same techniques since ancient times. Earthenware is basically composed of clay, often blended clays, baked hard.
The degree of hardness is relative to the intensity of the firing heat.
After the invention of glazing, earthen wares were coated with glaze to render them waterproof; sometimes glaze was applied decoratively.
The second type of pottery is called stoneware, it is fired at higher temperature and came to be preferred for domestic use for its greater resistance to direct flame or heat.
THE RENAISSANCE
The term "Renaissance", adopted from the French equivalent of the Italian word "rinascimento", means literally "rebirth". The word describes the radical and comprehensive changes that took place in European culture during the 15th and 16th centuries, bringing about the demise of the Middle Ages and embodying for the first time the values of the modern world.
